A report is visible inside a portal, but your extraction tool finds only the page title and navigation. One possible explanation is that the report belongs to a separate document embedded in the page. The tool may be reading the portal around the report while missing the report itself.
That separate document may be an iframe. To recover its data, first inspect the report's own export options. If you need selected fields from the open view, you can also try reading the embedded content with Sidelight AI Assistant and requesting a CSV. The result depends on the report's structure, loading behavior, and access restrictions.
Why an embedded table can be missed
An iframe places another document inside a page, as described in the MDN iframe reference. The portal and report can therefore have different addresses. A tool that examines only the outer document may find the portal's menus without reaching any report rows.
This is a possible diagnosis, not a conclusion to draw from every missing table. The view might instead contain an image, a drawn chart, or a grid that loads only some records. Begin by identifying the correct report and checking whether its values can be read as structured rows.
Test the report before requesting a full file
-
Wait for the report to finish loading. Set the period and filters inside the report itself. Its controls may be separate from those of the surrounding portal. A search in the portal does not necessarily filter the embedded table, and reloading the page can reset your selection. Note the visible report title so you can identify it precisely.
-
Look for the report's export menu. Check the controls inside its boundary, including any option to open it separately. An official download is usually preferable when it provides the records you need. If export has been restricted by an account permission, ask the administrator for the appropriate access or an approved file; extraction should not be used to override that restriction.
When you are authorized to work with the visible data, try Sidelight AI Assistant on the embedded report you have open. You can first ask what it can read before requesting a larger export.
-
Identify the block and request a sample. Open the assistant and name the report or describe its position. Choose fields you can compare visually. A general instruction to export the page may select a different table in the surrounding portal. A more useful first request is:
Read the embedded report titled “Open Orders.” Check whether you can access structured rows, and extract order reference, date, amount, and status from the current results page only. Report the number of rows obtained and save those rows as CSV. If the report is inaccessible, explain the limitation without estimating missing values.
-
Check which source was actually read. Compare several references, amounts, and statuses with the report. Confirm that the sample follows the report's selected period. A summary of the portal does not establish that the embedded rows were read, and a grand total cannot be used to reconstruct missing transactions. Check that the requested detail is available before extending the task.
-
Expand carefully and import the CSV. If the sample is correct, request a specific range, such as two results pages including the current page, and ask where the run stopped if it could not finish. The Sidelight AI Assistant export guide explains field and scope selection. Import the file into Excel, keeping identifiers as text when leading zeros matter. Microsoft's text and CSV import guidance covers these settings.
Troubleshoot a partial or inaccessible result
If the report asks you to sign in again, complete that step through the website's normal interface and then recheck its filters. Do not include passwords or access codes in your assistant request.
If only headings and filters are readable, the records may not have loaded or the report may use a representation that does not expose useful rows. Look for a table view or an official download. A plausible-looking table is not a substitute for the underlying data.
A report can also scroll within its own panel. Tell the assistant where that internal scroll area is; moving the outer page does not necessarily load additional report rows.
Frequently asked questions
Does this work with every iframe? No. Document restrictions, permissions, and the way the data is displayed can prevent reading. A small test establishes whether this approach fits that report.
Will Excel keep receiving changes? No. The CSV is a snapshot of the rows obtained. Importing it does not establish an ongoing connection to the embedded report.
Is the AI analysis entirely local? The content needed for your request is sent through the service to the model provider. Review the privacy policy before using confidential reports.
Identify the report, verify a few rows, and then expand the scope. Try Sidelight AI Assistant with a specific embedded table and request a small CSV sample.
